Great analysis of MARTA’s problems. It’s going to continue to suffer until it’s embraced as a true regional system. However, neighboring counties don’t want to embrace transit. They prefer their car-centric, isolated communities.
Running Blog?
I do not have a running blog. Do you want to know why? Because, with very few exceptions, running blogs are boring.
There. I said it. I apologize to my friends with running blogs. I really don’t care what you had to eat that went perfectly with chickpeas. I really don’t care that you met up with great friends for brunch after a local race. I want to be entertained or...

NYTimes to Cyclists: Drop Dead!
OK, we get it, New York Times. You aren’t a fan of the bike lanes or cyclists. Thanks for nothing.

Fitz, @jasonfitz1, has written a great book on running workouts to help people get stronger and run with less injury. It’s short, easy to read, and makes a great workout reference. Plus, it’s free. I highly recommend it.

Study: Walkable neighborhoods have happier people... →
Sure, walkability is a buzz word. But time after time, studies have shown that the benefits of living in walkable communities far outweighs the negatives. I don’t see any reason to live in a typical suburban environment where you must rely on your car for everything. I love being able to walk to the store - that was just as true when I lived in Atlanta as it is now living in NYC.

“Crap, now we need to figure out how to define ‘earmark’ so it doesn’t, you know, kill our pork-barrel projects”, said an imaginary Tea Party Congressman.

I’ve never understood why opponents of the bikes lanes in NYC ignore the safety facts. Bike lanes and the subsequent increase in cyclists always reduces road fatalities by lowering the average speeds. All the anti-bike lane crusaders see is the slower speed, and completely dismiss the increased safety for everyone who uses the road.
James Clark's Random Thoughts: XML vs the Web →
I totally agree with Jame’s ideas here. I am pretty agnostic when it comes to the data representation format that I use. I just want to use the simplest and most supported format. JSON fits the bill nicely because it translates easily to the data structures of any language unlike XML which has an unwieldy element/attribute model that requires lots of middle management to create and parse.

I’m not a huge fan of Wikileaks, but I’m less of a fan of politicians screwing with our freedom of speech. I’m sure Amazon didn’t have to comply, but they didn’t want to get wrapped up in this huge mess.
update 12/3:Amazon’s response - Wikileaks wasn’t pulled because of political pressure. It was their violation of the terms of service
The Big Economic Story, and Why Obama Isn't... →
marco:
By Robert Reich:
Unless the President and Democrats explain why the economy still stinks for most Americans and offer a plan to fix it, the Republican explanation and solution – it’s big government’s fault, and all we need do is shrink it – will prevail.
That will mean more hardship for tens of millions of Americans. It will make it harder to remedy the bad economy. And it will...
It's Official: The Economy Is Set To Starve →
This is a scary analysis of our future global energy production. By 2025, a large percentage of our energy supply will come from “fields yet to be found.” The IEA report actually shows that we’ve passed the point of Peak Oil, the maximum daily production of crude oil. It will never be higher than it was in 2006.
